Lack of Direct Shipping: An Impediment to trade with Latin America

A major impediment to increasing the level of trade between Australia and Chile is the lack of direct shipping services between the two countries. Some positive news on this front is being provided by Maersk Line, who are offering a regular weekly service for containers between Chile and Australia, shipped via Panama, but with a faster transit time. Maersk are offering fixed weekday - weekly services, to and from Arica, Iquique, Concepción (Lirquén) and San Antonio, and fast transit time on their Oceanía service, from San Antonio to Melbourne (30 days), Sydney (32 days) and Brisbane (33 days). These include standard 20' / 40' and 40' highcube containers as well as refrigerated containers for fresh or frozen cargoes. More at: www.maerskline.com
