Work and Holiday (Subclass 462)
Application Document Checklist for Chilean Nationals
After completing this checklist, please attach it to the front of your application. All forms referred to in this checklist are available from our website www.immi.gov.au.
Please note the Work and Holiday visa is only available to persons who:
-
hold a valid Chilean passport;
-
are outside Australia at the time of the lodgment of the visa application;
-
are at least 18 years old, but have not turned 31;
-
have no dependent children;
Forms, fees and charges
-
A signed and completed application Form 1208 ‘Application for a Work and Holiday Maker visa’.

Visa application charge (VAC). The VAC can be paid in either:
-
Chilean Pesos accepted in a ‘vale vista’ only or
-
USD Bank Cheque. The US dollar bank cheque must be drawn from a bank with representation in the USA. Cheques must be made payable to “Embajada de Australia” or “Australian Embassy”. Please note: Cash, Personal cheques, credit cards and “cheques de gerencia” are not accepted.
Personal documents

Certified colour copy of the bio-data page of your passport.

Certified colour copy of your RUT card.

A recent passport-sized photograph (no more than 6 months old)
Other documents

Results of an IELTS, TOEFL or Occupational English test, undertaken not more than 2 years prior to application.

Evidence of sufficient funds: Certified copy of a bank statement showing you have access to appropriate funds equivalent to at least AUD $5000, as well as funds to cover your airfare. Airfares to Australia will be considered to cost approximately AUD $2500

Letter from the Chilean Foreign Ministry supporting the application (see page 3 for further information)

Evidence of relevant education qualifications recognised by the Chilean Government:

Evidence that you have completed at least three years of tertiary study; or
-
evidence that you have been approved to undertake a third year of undergraduate university study.

Evidence of health insurance (Health Insurance is not essential but is highly recommended)
Appointment of an authorised recipient
The department is unable to discuss your application with any other person other than yourself unless you consent for us to do so.
If you wish to appoint another person as an authorised recipient (to receive correspondence in relation to the application) or to be able to discuss your application with the department you will need to complete one of the following forms:

Form 956: Advice by a migration agent/exempt person of providing immigration assistance

Form 956A: Appointment or withdrawal of authorised recipient (to be used if you are appointing a friend or family member).
Label free Information for Chilean citizens and all Student visas
Please ensure that you include in your application form your email address.
Once finalised, the decision to grant you a visa will be emailed to you. The visa will be attached electronically to your passport and you will be able to travel immediately to Australia. You do not need evidence of the visa placed in your passport. Your visa will be label free.
The letter that you will be emailed will contain all of the information about your visa, the stay period, the entry period, and what conditions are attached to your visa.
All airlines are able to confirm that you hold a valid visa for travel to Australia when you check in for your flight at the airport.
Australian Immigration is able to confirm that you hold a visa for travel and stay in Australia when you arrive in Australia.
You may print and carry with you the letter advising that you visa has been approved however, this letter alone is not an authority to travel. You must travel with the passport that you presented to be granted the visa.
Further details of the requirements that must be submitted when you lodge your application:
Functional English requirements
You must have functional English and provide documentary evidence of your English level when you lodge your visa application. Otherwise, you may be refused the visa.
You must provide evidence that you have done one of the following:

Achieved an IELTS average band score of at least 4.5 based on the four test components of speaking, reading, writing and listening in a test conducted no more than two years before lodging the visa application. For visa purposes you only need to sit the General Training Module.

Achieved a TOEFL score of 133 on a computer based test, or 450 on a paper based test or 45-46 on an internet-based test, no more than two years before lodging the visa application.

Passed the Occupational English Test no more than two years before lodging the visa application.
-
Completed all years of primary education and at least three years of secondary education at an educational institution in which all instruction was in English.
-
Completed at least five years of secondary education (high school) at an educational institution in which all instruction was in English.
-
Completed a post-secondary qualification that required at least two years of full-time study or training, in which all tuition was in English.
-
Successfully completed, in Australia, at least one year of full-time study or equivalent part-time study towards a degree, higher degree, diploma or associate diploma at an institution or institutions where all the instruction was in English.
Government support
You must include a letter of support from your home government with your application.
This letter is issued by the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
